Colombia News - cars, sales

2010 was a record year for car sales in Colombia and 2011 is positioned to follow suit.

A record 253,869 vehicles were sold in Colombia in 2010 according to a press release from the Committee of Colombian Automotive Econometrics obtained by America Economia.

The Committee, who monitors and analyzes trends in the Colombian automobile marketplace said the auto market grew 37.1 percent from last year.

If interest and exchange rates from the last quarter of 2010 remain constant, the committee predicts that 254,000 vehicles will be sold in 2011.

Purchases of SUV and family vehicles increased in 2010 and the number of cars sold that were assembled in Colombia increased by 24 percent for a total of 110,639 Colombian assembled cars sold.

Commercial passenger vehicles were the only segment that trended downward. In 2010, 3,785 commercial passenger vehicles were sold which is 530 less than 2009.
