Alleged drug lords wanted by Colombian police who were arrested on foreign soil, have been extradited to Colombia.

According to Venezuelan media outlet infosur, Amaury Smith Pomare was arrested during a raid in the Caribbean port city of La Ceiba, Honduras and has already been extradited to Colombia. During the raid, police also seized weapons and jewels. His brother, Mario Smith Pomare, has also been arrested and is awaiting extradition.

“I want to congratulate the police because I’ve just been informed they captured two drug traffickers we’ve been after for a long time,” said Colombia’s head of state.

“The government of Colombia with the government of Honduras…detected Amauri [when he] entered Honduras, and [knew that he] had an arrest warrant [pending] in Colombia,” said a spokesman for the Honduran ministry.

The two brothers were said to have been living on the Colombian archipelago of San Andres. The Caribbean island is a well-known transit point for drugs traveling north out of Colombia up towards Central America and the United States.
