Barranquilla drug traffickers transferred to Bogota prison

Nineteen convicted drug traffickers were transferred from the department of Barranquilla to the national model prison in Bogota, El Heraldo reported Monday.

Seventeen of the transferred prisoners were captured last July and accused of operating a drug ring with operations in Medellin, Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Bogota. The drug ring was accused of running shipments from Colombia to the Unities States.

Two members of the civil aviation authority were also transported. Civil aviation officials are often caught participaing in drug trafficking. Two other officials were arrested for drug trafficking last week.

Four of the prisoners are extraditable to foreign countries for their crimes.
