by Tom Heyden June 7, 2011

colombia news - crime

Police have captured 13 suspected murderers linked to the killings of at least 10 victims in Medellin, Antioquia department, so far in 2011, El Colombiano reported Tuesday.

Several of the arrests occurred in the city’s notorious western sector Comuna 13, such as alias “Piña,” who was wanted for the murder of two minors on May 12.

A member of the local gang “La Paradera,” accused of double murder, attempted murder and possession of firearms, was caught in the Comuna 13 neighborhood of Juan XXIII.

Alias “Chuki,” a 21-year-old who allegedly murdered a 68-year-old man in July last year in a stray bullet incident, was also captured in Comuna 13.

Among the remaining people captured, police highlighted the arrest of alias “Ojon,” wanted for the murder of a 15-year-old and 23-year-old in January of this year.

With these arrests, police hope to be able to close the files on a least 10 murder cases in the city.
