Top teams drop points in Colombian league

Colombian league leaders Deportes Tolima lost 4-3 at La Equidad but remain on top as Independiente Medellin only managed a draw against Boyaca Chico.

In-form La Equidad took the points in a highly entertaining clash with Tolima in Bogota, where Carlos Renteria put the hosts ahead on ten minutes and Sherman Cardenas made it 2-0 seven minutes later.

Tolima then fought back with goals from Franco Arizala (58th) and Efrain Viafara (71st) before Renteria made it 3-2 in the 79th.

When Christian Marrugo netted for 3-3 with just four minutes to go, Tolima thought to have limited the damage earning a vital point, but La Equidad’s John Viafara had the final say in added time, 4-3.

Medellin could have taken the lead after Tolima’s slip-up but were held to a scoreless draw by Chico at Atanasio Girardot and remain at one point from the leaders.

The remaining top four team that played on Sunday, Junior, dropped points as well in a 2-2 draw at America de Cali. Juan Angulo and Sergio Galvan scored for the hosts, and Carlos Bacca netted twice for the Barranquilla outfit.

In Sunday’s other games, Atletico Huila beat Once Caldas 3-2, Deportes Quindio earned their third win of the season at Cortulua and Millonarios earned a point from their 1-1 draw at Pereira.

Tolima, Medellin, Santa Fe and Junior are currently on course for a spot in the semi finals although the latter share the fourth spot with La Equidad who are behind on goal difference.
