Uribe orders seizure of personal doses of illegal drugs

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe, speaking at a local town hall meeting in Bucaramanga on Sunday, urged the security forces to seize “personal doses” of illegal drugs from citizens without exception, reports Caracol Radio.

Uribe reminded the audience that the Constitutional Court is deciding what the penalty will be for people searched by police that are found to be carrying a small quantity of an illegal drug.

Colombian Congress last December prohibited the carrying and consumption of drugs, which, in small doses, was previously allowed by the constitution.

The intiative must be passed by the Constitutional Court before it becomes a law.
