Police capture suspected ‘Valenciano’ gang members

Colombian police say they have captured nine key associates of Medellin gang leader Maximiliano Bonilla, alias “Valenciano.”

The men are allegedly members of the “Los Mondongueros” gang, and are accused of the murders of over 100 people in Antioquia. They are thought to be responsible for the massacre of eight people in a disco in Envigado, a municipality bordering on Medellin, in July.

Several hitmen reportedly entered the club late at night and began shooting indiscriminately, before escaping on motorbikes.

Valenciano is one of Medellin’s biggest gang leaders, fighting for control over the city’s drug trade and extortion networks with alias “Sebastian.” Both are members of the Office of Envigado, a criminal organization run by kingpin “Don Berna” until his 2008 extradition to the U.S.
