Peñalosa says Uribe will not be part of Bogota local govt

Enrique Peñalosa, a Green Party candidate in the Bogota mayoral race backed by ex-President Alvaro Uribe, said Wednesday that the former leader would have no part in his administration.

Peñalosa told press “I will count on the advice of President Uribe, but ultimately the mayor will be the one who governs.”

The mayoral hopeful’s remarks follow an apparent drop in the polls.

Peñalosa, initially the undisputed frontrunner in the mayoral race, has received the support of Uribe since the campaign began.

However, the centrist candidate has seen his popularity slipping in a number of recent polls in favor of socialist candidate Gustavo Petro.
