Former Medellin Mayor Luis Perez and former Antioquia Governor Anibal Gaviria are neck and neck in the race for the Medellin Mayor’s Office, a newly released poll showed Thursday.
According to the poll, Perez and Gaviria are racing towards a photo finish with the support of respectively 33% and 32% of the population of Colombia’s second largest city.
According to pollster Centro Nacional de Consultoria (CNC), the poll had a margin error of 4%, making neither of the two candidates a convincing leader in the poll.
Federico Gutierrez, who has been actively endorsed by former President Alvaro Uribe, can count on the support of 7% of the city’s population, the poll said.
A poll held by Datexco and released in newspaper El Tiempo over the weekend showed a convincing advantage for the Liberal Gaviria, who according to that poll held the support of 43% of respondents, while the independently running Perez had the support of 30%. Gutierrez (Partido de la U.) received the support of 9% in that poll.
The CNC poll was held among 600 men and women.
