Important leader of ‘Los Rastrojos’ captured

Colombian authorities have captured Juan Esteban Sanmartin Rodriguez, alias “Mateo,”  a leader of the drug-trafficking gang “Los Rastrojos,” several media reported Friday.

The director of Colombia’s judicial police (DIJIN), General Carlos Ramiro Mena, said that gang member is accused of 14 homicides and of being one of those responsible for extortion in the Bajo Cauca region of the Antioquia department in behalf of the criminal organization, reported newspaper Vanguardia.

Mateo was captured in a joint operation between the prosecution and police after having been pursued through the Antioquia department, the Llanos Orientales (Eastern Plains) region and Bogota.

Police captured another Los Rastrojos leader, Guajira Robinson Antonio Miranda Rodriguez alias “El Niño” Thursday, reports Caracol Radio.
