Catholic Church seeks protection from illegal armed groups

Colombia’s Catholic Church on Tuesday urged the country’s government to step up security measures for threatened priests. According to church representatives, seven priests have been murdered so far this year.

According to the church, three priests have been murdered in Bogota, one in the department of Caldas, one in Risaralda and one in Antioquia. On Monday, a priest was found murdered in his home in the town of Capurgana, Choco

The clergies expressed their “profound pain and concern over this new act of violence that inflicted upon the Catholic Church. These acts must be rigorously investigated and punished to the full extent of the law, preventing them to go unpunished,”
