Colombia’s police capture Urabeños financial head

Colombia’s National Police captured a financial head of the Urabeños neo-paramilitary organization in the central Antioquia department, said local media Tuesday.

Alexander Hoyos Arenas alias “El Ingeniero” was wanted by authorities for the alleged murder of at least ten people. El Ingeniero (The Engineer), is believed to have been in charge of coordinating the Urabeños’ logistical and financial resources. Another of his roles in the drug trafficking organization was the collection of extortion money and intimidation of locals, according to a Cordoba police commander.

Police captured Hoyos in the Arboletes municipality in Antioquia, reportedly following a local tip-off. According to police, he was mostly active in the coastal Cordoba department and Uraba subregion of Antioquia.
