Thieves have apparently stolen a $6 million airplane from Bogota’s international airport, Colombia’s aviation authority admitted Monday.
The Super King Air 300 disappeared from Colombia’s most secured airport on March 18, something that Aerocivil director Santiago Castro told Caracol Radio was “very strange.”
Radar contact with the Aero Capital flight was lost over the Uraba region in the northwestern department of Antioquia, revealed the office of Civil Aeronautics of Colombia.
Because police and aviation authorities are investigating the disappearance of the plane, Castro wouldn’t say much more about the alleged theft.
According to the radio station, the Medellin owners of the 12,600 pound airplane, did not report the plane as stolen until three days after its disappearance.
Caracol said the plane was in one of the airport’s hangars for maintenance until its mysterious disappearance.
