Four people have been killed and another three were injured in a presumed feud between guerrillas and drug traffickers in the north of Colombia, local police said Monday.
The four fatalities — two women and two men, were found dead in a farmhouse in Puerto Valdivia, a municipality in the north of the Antioquia department where the FARC and other illegal armed groups are active.
A local police official told newspaper El Colombiano the shooting took place around 9PM at less than a mile from the town of Puerto Valdivia. The two women were sisters and residents of the town.
Three more men were found injured at the scene, the official said. This was not confirmed by the Antioquia Police department.
The killing was the apparent result of “some criminal group and presumed members of the FARC’s 18th Front. This is what we got so far from investigators,” a departmental police commander, Colonel Fernando Restrepo, was quoted as saying by Medellin newspaper El Colombiano.
Puerto Valvidia is located just below the troubled Bajo Cauca region, a FARC hotbed and an important region for both coca cultivation and gold mining.
