15 suspected narcos arrested near Medellin

Medellin authorities on Monday said they arrested 15 suspected members of neo-paramilitary drug gang “Los Urabeños” in nearby villages.

The offensive against the drug trafficking operation that is mostly active in the Antioquia and Cordoba departments was carried out by police, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the army.

The gang members were arrested in four villages east of Medellin and will have to respond to charges including drug trafficking, homicide, extortion and conspiracy.

Seven more alleged members of the neo-paramilitary organization were notified of the same charges while already in jail for other crimes.

“Los Urabeños” is one of the organizations that sprung from the demobilized paramilitary organization AUC. The organization, once led by arrested war lord “Don Mario,” is one of the main drug trafficking groups in Colombia.
