Witness falls victim to Medellin gang in-fighting

A key witness in investigations into paramilitary gang the ‘Office of
Envigado’ became the latest victim of the criminal organization’s inter-factional fighting.

Armando Rendon Cardona, a former member of the ‘Office’, claimed to have evidence linking paramilitary boss ‘El Cebollero’ to criminal gangs from Medellin suburbs of La Union and
Calatrava. Rendon was murdered by hit men last Friday.

Colombian Police arrested twenty alleged members of ‘the Office’ on June 17.

Following these arrests there has reportedly been inter-factional fighting as gang members fight for power and control of the paramilitary organization.

However Police investigation force Dijin believes La Union gang is responsible for at least 39 murders in Antioquia and that the crime wave in Medellin in the first weekend in April had more to do with fighting within this gang than for a struggle for control btween leaders of ‘the Office’, El Tiempo reported Tuesday.
