7 ‘ELN rebels’ killed in bombardment: Air force

A Colombian air force attack killed seven ‘ELN rebels’ in western Colombia, air force officials said Thursday.

The alleged rebels were killed in an aerial bombardment in Lloro, a municipality in the western Choco Department, only miles from the department capital Quibdo.

The bombardment hit a camp allegedly belonging to the “Western War Front” of the ELN, which operates along Colombia’s Pacific coast. Newspaper El Colombiano further reported that one “ELN guerrilla” was captured in the fighting.

According to the air force, the attack was made possible due to months of intelligence work.

The alleged blow against the leftist rebel group follows the killing of eight presumed FARC members in another air force bombardment in the neighboring Antioquia department Wednesday.
