Preview: Liga Postobon week 9

The Colombian Liga Postobon continues this Friday as Deportes Tolima host Atletico Huila. Leaders Santa Fe face Millonarios in the Bogota classic a day later.

It is a week of many classics in Colombia, starting with a high-profile clash involving Tolima (5th) and Huila (2nd). Tolima, who were recently still second themselves, suffered two defeats in a row and pressure will be on the Ibague outfit to get things back on track. Huila have not been able to win any of their last five away games to Tolima.

In Friday’s other match, Cortulua host third-place Deportes Quindio who in theory have a chance to go top if they manage a win in this game.

On Saturday, all eyes in Bogota will on the capital city’s oldest classic between troubled Millonarios and league leaders Santa Fe. In recent encounters, neither team has been particularly dominant. The last league meeting however was won by Millonarios, 2-1 in March this year.

Later at night, action moves to the coast where Real Cartagena host regional rivals and defending champions Junior of Barranquilla. Both sides could really use a win in this game as it might just take them into the top eight.

In the day’s remaining match, last-placed Envigado hope to solve some of their problems at home against Cucuta Deportivo, who are clearly favored to get a win.

On Sunday, Atletico Nacional aim to recover from last week’s defeat with a good result against local rivals Independiente Medellin, who themselves should consider this a last chance to turn things around in what has been a poor season for them.

In the evening game, America de Cali host Deportivo Cali in yet another big classic. America will likely show slightly more motivation than their opponents as Deportivo’s season seems to be rather hopeless at this point.

The day’s other games have Deportivo Pereira host Once Caldas while Boyaca Chico visit La Equidad.
