Preview: Liga Postobon week 6

Colombian Liga Postobon action continues this Saturday as Santa Fe defend their lead while others fight for a spot near the top.

With no games played in Friday this week, the round is kicked off by Deportes Quindio and Independiente Medellin in Saturday’s first fixture. Quindio have won three of their five games and are currently in fifth position. Another victory could well leave them in the top four. Medellin are in eighth place after a rocky start, but last week’s win over Cortulua should give the side some new confidence.

Defending champions Junior of Barranquilla face off at Deportivo Cali later on Saturday, and aim to return to winning ways after collecting only two points in their last three games. Cali have not done any better with just one win in five matches this season.

In the last match of the day, Atletico Nacional host second-placed Cucuta Deportivo at Medellin’s Atanasio Girardot stadium.

On Sunday, leaders Santa fe play away to Deportivo Pereira who themselves are yet to secure their first win of the season. Pereira do have good memories from their last meeting with Santa Fe, winning 0-2 in Bogota six months ago.

Deportes Tolima, currently in third place, host Boyaca Chico in the week’s top encounter as the visiting side occupy fifth place after five games. Tolima do have the better form though, having won both of their last two games while Chico drew both of theirs.

Atletico Huila, fourth, travel to the capital city to face La Equidad at El Techo. Huila generally do well against La Equidad. Of the eight previous encounter, the Neiva side won five and one ended undecided. All of the last three clashes ended in victories to Huila.

Once Caldas are ninth but do have a game in hand in comparison to most of the teams in the top eight. In Sunday’s late game, the Manizales outfit play away to Millonarios who themselves are currently in 13th position after winning their opening match but failing to repeat that in any of the next three.

Sunday’s other fixtures have Envigado host America de Cali while Real Cartagena receive Cortulua.
