Preview: Liga Postobon week 5

Santa Fe defend their lead in the Colombian Liga Postobon this weekend while Cucuta Deportivo hope to bounce back from last week’s defeat.

Bogota side Santa Fe play a home match against Envigado this Friday. The ‘Cardinals’ have won three of their first four games but dropped their first points in an away match to Cartagena last week. Envigado should give them a good chance to return to winning ways as the visiting side have lost all of their four games so far and are still looking for their first point.

Cucuta lost 1-0 at Deportes Tolima in the previous round of games, and as such no longer shared the top spot with Santa Fe. This Saturday, the team face Millonarios in a home match and aim to beat the Bogota side for the first time since March 2008. All of the last four encounters were won by Millonarios with Cucuta failing to score even once.

In Saturday’s other encounter, Atletico Huila hope to defend their fourth place in a home match with Deportivo Pereira.

Sunday has Once Caldas face Deportes Tolima in a potentially vital match for this edition of the Liga Postobon. Caldas are in sixth position at the moment and a win would certainly reinforce their title ambitions. Tolima, following their win over Cucuta, are in third position and a combination of results could even leave the Ibague outfit in the top spot.

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Boyaca Chico host La Equidad, who are in seventh position, in Tunja in another match where the winning side would take a big step in the right direction while the losing team could even drop out of the top eight.

Deportes Quindio are in eighth place and as such feel most pressure as any slip-up in their home match with Deportivo Cali would cos them their position. In fact, as Cali are only one point behind, the visiting side would certainly move into the top eight in case of a win.

In Sunday’s remaining games, Independiente Medellin host Cortulua while troubled Real Cartagena play away to America de Cali.
