Preview: Liga Postobon Week 18

Two more semi final spots are up for grabs in the last round of the Liga Postobon regular season, with five teams still in contention.

Deportes Tolima and Independiente are both already certain of a spot in the next stage and play rather unimportant away matches to Atletico Nacional and Millonarios respectively this Saturday.

But the real action takes place on Sunday. Third-placed Santa Fe have 30 points and defend their spot in an away match to Atletico Huila. A win will certainly see the Bogota side through to the next round but any other result could well prove to be fatal.

La Equidad are currently in fourth place and play away to Deportivo Cali, who themselves are in sixth. A win to La Equidad will be enough for them. If Cali win, they might advance but they would still depend on results in at least one other game.

That other game is the match between Junior and Envigado, where fifth-placed Junior are quite likely to win. All the Barranquilla side would need if they do, is for either Santa Fe or La Equidad to slip up. Only if Junior’s win over Envigado is smaller than Cali’s win over La Equidad, the situation could still get complicated.

Finally, Real Cartagena face an away match at Cucuta Deportivo. The coastal team are in seventh place and technically still have a chance of making it to the next round, though with 28 points they would need a miracle to happen.
