There will be more clarity in the Colombian Liga Postobon II after this weekend’s fixtures, as teams continue their battle for a spot in the next round.
Friday
The action starts on Friday when second-placed Deportes Tolima receive La Equidad, who are currently in sixth place.
Tolima are practically certain of a spot in the next round but La Equidad should be more motivated as the Bogota side could use a win in order to take a step in the right direction.
The two sides last faced in the semi finals of this year’s Liga Postobon I, with La Equidad advancing to the final on penalties.
All games for Friday, October 22nd
8:00 Tolima – La Equidad
Saturday
Third-placed Atletico Nacional hope to continue their rise up the ranks in a home match with bottom-of-the-table Envigado.
Atletico beat Millonarios in midweek and the Medellin side appear to be in good shape. This can’t be said about Envigado, who managed only one win in 14 games and are starting to feel the pressure of relegation.
The last league meeting involving these teams ended in a 2-1 win to Envigado, but Atletico are generally the more successful side in direct encounters.
Deportivo Cali meanwhile, host troubled Real Cartagena and know that a win might just take them into the top eight.
All games for Saturday, October 23rd
4:00 Nacional – Envigado
6:20 Junior – America de Cali (RCN*, GolTV**)
8:30 Deportivo Cali – Cartagena
Sunday
League leaders Independiente Santa Fe feature in Sunday’s late match, playing away to Cucuta Deportivo.
The home side will feel more pressure as they are currently in eighth place, only two points ahead of Deportivo Cali. Santa Fe have less to worry about as they are already certain of a spot in the next round.
However, with several teams close by in the rankings, Santa Fe will want a win in order to keep their lead and have an advantage once the next round starts.
Arguably the week’s top clash takes place a few hours earlier as fifth-placed Once Caldas receive fourth-placed Atletico Huila in the city of Manizales.
The two sides are level on points (26 each) and a win on Sunday would leave them very close to a second round berth.
