Preview: Liga Postobon Week 14

Independiente Medellin defend their top spot in the Colombian Liga Postobon in an away match to La Equidad on Sunday.

The action starts on Saturday however with a vital clash between Junior and Santa Fe, respectively fifth and third in the ranking.

Junior are most in need of a win in order to get back into the top four, but the differences are so small that Santa Fe will want to avoid a defeat as it could well move them down several positions.

When the two sides last met, in September 2009, Santa Fe scored an 86th-minute equaliser to draw 2-2.

Second-placed Deportes Tolima also play on Saturday, receiving Deportivo Pereira in Ibague. Tolima are highly favored to win that match based on recent performances of the two teams.

On Sunday, Medellin hope to follow up their win over Nacional with a good result at La Equidad in Bogota.

The two sides have created an interesting tradition since La Equidad’s arrival to the top flight in 2007, as all eight previous encounters were won by one goal. Medellin won six, La Equidad two.

Fourth-placed Real Cartagena face a tough task at Nacional in Medellin, with the home side likely very motivated after losing to arch rivals DIM in midweek.

Moreover, Nacional still have a small chance of making it to the next round but they will certainly need a win in this game just to keep hope.
