The 14th round of the 2010 Liga Postobon II has Santa Fe defend their top spot at home against Junior, while second-placed Deportes Tolima play away to Deportivo Pereira.
Saturday
Deportes Tolima are only one point away from the top of the table and the Ibague outfit likely smell blood. Saturday’s away match to troubled Deportivo Pereira should be a good opportunity to put additional pressure on leaders Santa Fe.
Tolima eliminated Argentinian side Banfield from the Copa Sudamericana earlier this week and are currently one of the teams with the best form in Colombia’s top league.
Pereira on the other hand, are in penultimate spot and haven’t won a single league match this season.
The last league meeting between these two teams, six months ago, ended in a 1-0 victory to Tolima. However, Tolima haven’t actually won in Pereira since 2006.
All games for Saturday, October 16th
3:30 Deportivo Pereira – Deportes Tolima
3:30 Real Cartagena – Atletico Nacional
6:20 America de Cali – Deportes Quindio (RCN*) (Gol TV**)
8:30 Envigado – Millonarios
Sunday
Leaders Santa Fe face a difficult task in Sunday’s late game, hosting reigning champions Junior at Bogota’s El Campin stadium.
It has been a tough week for Santa Fe, as the side were associated with illegal income and lost sponsor Bavaria in the process. Moreover, the team suffered a 2-0 loss at Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro in the Copa Sudamericana.
As such, Santa Fe will want to use the match against Junior to get things back on track. Not an impossible task, as Junior are not half the team they were in the first half of 2010.
The Barranquilla side currently sit in 14th position and appear happy with their Liga Postobon I trophy, letting the rest of the year slide.
Santa Fe have had difficulties beating Junior in recent years, their last victory being four years old. Junior won five encounters since, the other three ending undecided.
