Preview: Liga Postobon Week 13

Independiente Medellin will attempt to reconquer the sole lead in the Colombian Liga Postobon in a home match with Once Caldas on Sunday.

The action starts on Saturday however when Junior travel to face Atletico Huila in Neiva. Junior are currently in third place but the competition is fierce in that region of the table, forcing the coastal team to win this game if they want to avoid the risk of dropping out of the top four.

Real Cartagena did exactly that after losing all of their last three games, and the magic that kept them in the top spot for many weeks seems to be gone. The home match with Millonarios might come at a good time as Millonarios’ shape is particularly bad in recent weeks, possibly allowing Cartagena to restore some of their confidence.

In Saturday’s remaining match, Cortulua host Atletico Nacional in the town of Tulua.

On Sunday, the top clash has Medellin host fellow Copa Libertadores participants Once Caldas at Atanasio Girardot. Medellin are currently in shared first place but to have a game in hand in comparison with Deportes Tolima, which should relieve the pressure somewhat.

Tolima themselves visit Envigado and a win would certainly leave them a big step closer to a spot in the second round, although it is too early to actually start dividing those berths.

Santa Fe entered the top four in midweek, beating Deportivo Cali 0-1, and have a good chance of adding another three points as they host last-placed Quindio in the capital city, Bogota.

Another big game on Sunday is the Cali derby featuring America and Deportivo. It would certainly have topped the headlines in advance of this clash if it wasn’t for the disappointing seasons both teams are having. Deportivo are best off in 12th position, while America are stuck in 16th.
