Piedad Cordoba ‘missing’ say Police; ‘I am fine’ says Cordoba

Colombian ex-Senator Piedad Cordoba abandoned her security team Thursday in the jungle off the road from Medellin to Uraba.

National Police commander Jose Roberto Leon Riaño told newspaper El Tiempo he is worried about the politician after she told her police escorts to leave her and a Spanish camera crew alone.

“She manifested that she wanted to continue alone with her four companions. The police warned her repeatedly that this area is under guerrilla influence and that she would put herself in danger to continue alone,” Leon Riaño told the paper.

Cordoba texted Colombia Reports stating that “I am fine, it is a false alarm on the part of the police.”

After Cordoba proved to not be missing at all, Interior Minister German Vargas Lleras tweeted the former congresswoman had “escaped from her escorts” and that her actions were “irresponsible.”

The area where Cordoba is traveling has a high presence of guerrilla groups like the FARC and neo-paramilitary groups like the Urabeños, who stem from that region.
