Atletico Nacional are the new leaders in the Liga Postobon following a 2-1 win at Millonarios, while La Equidad beat Boyaca Chico to jump to second place.
In Sunday’s top clash of the weekend, top-of-the-table Millonarios hosted Atletico Nacional at Bogota’s El Campin stadium. A win to either side would have that team finish the day in first place.
Nacional had the better start as Dorlan Pabon opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 29th minute, but Millonarios recovered just before the break with Mayer Candelo converting a spot-kick as well. With five minutes to go, Yovanny Arrechea netted the winning goal for Nacional.
the Medellin-outfit are now in first place with 26 points, while Millonarios (23 points) drop to fourth position but remain on course for a spot in the next round.
Also on Sunday, La Equidad defeated Boyaca Chico 2-1 in Tunja. The visiting side left it until the 55th minute for Dager Palacios to break the deadlock and Gabriel Gomez doubled the gap 12 minutes later.
Boyaca, who had been a man down since Juan Galicia’s second booking in the 35th minute, pulled one back through Luis Mena late on but it was not enough for the home side. La Equidad climb to second place at just one point from Nacional.
Former leaders Once Caldas were held to a 2-2 draw by Santa Fe, but climb to third place despite the loss of points.
Carlos Carbonero scored the opener for Once Caldas after 18 minutes, but Santa Fe soon turned things around with goals from Oscar Rodas and Mario Gomez. The hosts would not settle for defeat however and got a 90th-minute equaliser from Arnulfo Valentierra.
Deportes Tolima hosted Deportes Quindio in the city of Ibague, where the match ended in a goalless result. Tolima remain in fifth place however.
Envigado drop to sixth position following an eventful 3-2 loss at Deportivo Cali. The home side took a comfortable 3-0 lead through Diego Alvarez (2) and Hernan Burbano, but almost allowed Envigado to close the gap later in the second half. However, goals from Freddy Hurtado and Nelson Lemus were not enough for the visitors to avoid a defeat.
Itagüi Ditaires hosted Atletico Huila and were held to a 3-3 draw. Mauricio Gomez (2) and Jhonny Vasquez scored for the hosts, while Jose Moreno (penalty), Jorge Vidal and Jeison Quiñones did so for the visiting team.
Cucuta Deportivo conclude the top eight of the league following a 0-0 home draw with Junior of Barranquilla on Saturday.
In other games this weekend, Independiente Medellin beat America de Cali 1-0 and Real Cartagena drew 2-2 with Deportivo Pereira.
With five games to go in the regular season, Nacional, La Equidad, Once Caldas, Millonarios, Tolima, Envigado, Itagüi and Cucuta are on course for a spot in the next round.
