Medellin’s Mayor plots against me: ‘El Cebollero’

Jesus ‘El Cebollero’ Rendon Hurto, who is accused of being a leader of
paramilitary gang ‘the Office of Envigado’, said Medellin Mayor Alonso
Salazar of plotting against
him.

‘El Cebollero’ (the onion man) reiterated that he does not have any links with the extradited paramilitary leader Diego Fernando Murillo alias ‘Don Berna’ and denied leading any part of the ‘Office of Envigado’.

“This is a conspiracy of Medellin’s Mayor Alonso Salazar against me”, the alleged paramilitary told Radio W in an interview Tuesday. “It is no secret that [Salazar] wants to disrupt the work of wholesalers”, ‘El Cebollero’ added.

“I am a false positive”, the onion man said. “I am a simple businessman”.

On 13 March 2008, Alonzo Salazar claimed that illegal armed groups, including those of ‘El Cebollero’, intend to take control of the central wholesaling in Antioquia. Rendon is accused of price fixing.
