Medellin Police capture Office of Envigado leader

Medellin Police say they captured another leader of the Office of Envigado, a sprout of demobilized paramilitary group AUC.

In an interview with W Radio, Police commander Luis Eduardo Martinez says they arrested ‘Cachete’, alleged leader of the paramilitaries in Bello, a town bordering Medellin in the north.

“He was in charge of initiating criminal activities in east Antioquia to combat criminal organization Aguilas Negras and assume control of the area for drug trafficking purposes,” the police commander said.

Diego Fernando ‘Cachete’ Tavera is accused of leading groups of assassins, the illegal carrying of firearms, escaping prison and the murder of two policemen in 2003.
