Medellin hold Cartagena in top clash

Wednesday’s Liga Postobon top clash between leaders Real Cartagena and defending champions Independiente Medellin ended undecided, while Junior moved into second place thanks to a 1-2 win at Quindio.

Cartagena were on their way to yet another victory when Milton Rodriguez put the leaders ahead at 29 minutes against Medellin, but the visiting side equalised through Juan Valencia 11 minutes later.

DIM lost their goalscorer, Valencia, to a red card in the 65th minute but Cartagena failed to take advantage of the situation.

Junior did take advantage of Medellin’s draw, beating Quindio 1-2 to move into second place ahead of the Antioquia outfit.

Victor Cortes scored the opener for Junior in the 14th minute, but had his goal cancelled out by Carlos Villagra in the 65th. Junior had the final say however as Jossymar Gomez netted the winner five minutes later.

The top four in the Liga Postobon is completed by Pereira, following a 1-0 win over America de Cali. Johnny Acosta scored the only goal on 64 minutes.

Pereira’s climb up the ranks goes at the expense of Atletico Nacional, who suffered a 1-2 defeat by Once Caldas and drop from fourth to eighth place.

Once Caldas took the lead through Dayron Perez in the 45th minute, but Giovanni Moreno balanced things on the hour mark. The Manizales outfit were then handed a penalty in the 85th minute, which was gratefully taken advantage of by Dayro Moreno.
