Several illegal armed groups are active in Colombia, either for political purposes, drug trafficking or a bit of both.
None of these groups are active in the entire national territory, but generally cover specific territories considered strategic for coca cultivation, cocaine production, and the trafficking abroad.
With the exception of “Los Rastrojos,” all groups have their origin in the country’s armed conflict, but deserted previous peace processes under the leadership of mid-level guerrilla or paramilitary commanders, or capos.
