Judge demands release of suspected Medellin gang leader

A Bogota judge ordered the release of suspected Medellin gang leader
Alirio ‘el Cebollero’ de Jesus Rendon because the Prosecution neglected to indict the
man in time.

‘El Cebollero was arrested on August 21 and presented by authorities as one of the leaders of the Office of Envigado, a paramilitary group that allegedly ruled the Medellin underworld. Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos even called the suspect the successor of ‘Don Berna’, the AUC warlord that led the paramilitary Cacique Nutibara in the Antioquai department.

The judge ordered the release after the defense of ‘el Cebollero’ demanded the suspect’s release for habeas corpus because he still had not been arraigned after ten months of detention.
