The national comptroller announced Friday that he opened an investigation against the governor of Antioquia for fiscal misconduct regarding road construction budgets, Caracol Radio reports.
Luis Alfredo Ramos Botero, the current governor of Antioquia will be investigated for exceeding his budget by more than four billion pesos ($2.2 million) on five transportation and emergency relief contracts awarded during his term. Caracol Radio reports that more investigations are expected regarding the governor’s contracts and that this is the first in a series of wide-ranging investigations. Public access to the comptroller’s report will be made available next Tuesday.
Antioquia is Colombia’s second largest district by population after the nation’s capitol of Bogota, at approximately 6 million people. Antioquia contains Colombia’s second largest city, Medellin, a city of approximately 2.4 million people.
