Former mayor joins Petro’s campaign in Bogota mayor race

Former Bogota mayor Paul Bromberg officially joined the political campaign of Gustavo Petro Thursday in his race to become the Bogota mayor, Colombian media reported.

Gustavo Petro says that he is very proud to be joined in his campaign by ex-Mayor Bromberg, who served in the past as the leader of the Citizen’s Culture Project during Antanas Mockus’ term as mayor.

The candidate welcomed the arrival of the Bromberg, emphasizing the importance of civic culture in Bogota for his own proposed government.

Petro believes that Bromberg will be able to strengthen and enhance the aspiring mayor’s plans for civic culture.

Bromberg defended his decision to move from the current campaign of Mockus into Petro’s political campaign, saying that Petro is the candidate most likely to be able to reach all of the various sectors of Bogota society.

Gustavo Petro had been in the lead in a number of Bogota mayor polls until a poll was released Thursday that put Petro behind Peñalosa with just 18% of the vote.

Results for the polls in the last weeks have differed dramatically but Peñalosa and Petro have always been the two leading candidates.
