A fifth police officer has died from injuries sustained in a Nariño roadside bombing attributed to leftist guerrilla organization the FARC, Colombian newspaper Semana reported Thursday.
The Nariño police commander confirmed that one of three police officers injured in the blast passed away Thursday morning. Four officers died immediately following the attack.
The bodies of the deceased officers will be transferred from Tumaco to their respective homes in Antioquia, Choco, Valle, Meta, and Bogota.
Authorities say guerrillas from the FARC’s “Daniel Aldana” Column, which is active in the area, are responsible for the bombing.
The commander of the Llorente police force is reportedly among the five fatally wounded officers.
