Cucuta, Santa Fe lead after opening round

Cucuta Deportivo and Santa Fe are the first leaders in the new Liga Postobon following wins over Independiente Medellin and Envigado respectively.

Action started on Saturday with Santa Fe’s 2-0 win over Medellin in Bogota. The goals came late as Jhonier Gonzales broke the deadlock on 75 minutes and Alejandro Bernal doubled the lead eight minutes later.

In Saturday’s other game, defending champions Junior beat Deportivo Pereira 2-1 in Barranquilla. Fabian Cuellar had put Pereira ahead from the penalty spot in the fourth minute but Giovanni Hernandez leveled three minutes later and Carlos Bacca netted the home side’s winning goal with eight minutes to go.

On Sunday, Cucuta hosted Envigado and took the lead through Wilson Carpintero in the last minute before the break. The final score would be 2-0 at Federico Barrionuevo added another in the 80th minute.

Arguably the highest-profile clash of the week, between Deportivo Cali and Deportes Tolima, ended in a 1-1 draw. Hosts Cali went ahead through Fabian Castillo in the 11th minute but Tolima’s Wilder Medina restored the balance shortly after the interval.

Once Caldas received Real Cartagena in Manizales and two first-half goals from Dayro Moreno – one of which from the penalty spot – were enough for a 2-1 victory. Cartagena’s only goal came from Edwards Jimenez in the 67th minute.

In other matches on Sunday, Atletico Huila drew 1-1 with America de Cali, Boyaca Chico beat Cortulua 1-0 and Deportes Quindio earned a 1-0 win over La Equidad.
