Colombia’s ‘Queen of Cocaine’ assassinated in Medellin

One of Colombia’s first drug traffickers, known as “the Queen of Cocaine” was assassinated in Medellin Monday.

The Cartagena-born Grisela Blanco, 69, was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in the neighborhood of Belen.

Blanco, who also was called “The Godmother,” became rich in the late 1970s by pioneering in the creation of drug trafficking routes to the United States

According to El Tiempo, the story goes it was “The Godmother” who introduced Pablo Escobar to the world of cocaine.

The drug trafficker was also one of the first to introduce the concept of the “sicarios,” hitmen on motorbikes who she sent out to assassinate her enemies, and ultimately killed her while at a butcher shop.

“The Godmother” was 69.
