Real Cartagena suffered their second defeat in a row, dropping to third place in the Colombian Liga Postobon, while Once Caldas beat Junior to enter the top four.
La Equidad of Bogota were by far the better side in their away match against former leaders Cartagena, and took just seven minutes for Carlos Renteria to score the opening goal.
Edwards Jimenez levelled in the 11th minute but David Castro restored the visitors’ lead two minutes later.
Renteria got his second from the penalty spot in the 20th minute and Jhony Cano delivered the fourth and final goal in the third minute of added time.
Tolima jumped to second place following a 1-5 crushing of Cortulua. Franco Arizala netted three for the “Pijaos,” and the other two came from Wilder Medina. For Cortulua, only Victor Bonilla managed to find the target.
Days after advancing to the next round in the Copa Libertadores, Once Caldas proved that they can perform just as well at the domestic level with a 1-0 win over Junior. The only goal came from Dayro Moreno in the 54th minute.
Junior had two players sent off in the first half. Jossymar Gomez was red-carded in the 66th minute and Roman Torres followed in the 84th.
In other matches on Sunday, Boyaca Chico beat Quindio 1-0, Envigado earned a 2-1 win over Pereira and Deportivo Cali suffered a 1-0 defeat at Huila.
Based on the current standings and with seven rounds of games to go, Medellin, Tolima, Cartagena and Once Caldas are currently on course to make it to the next round.
