Bogota politician accused of libel and slander

Ex-Bogota mayoral candidate Gina Parody has been accused of libel and slander by a former political rival, reported local media Wednesday.

Former mayoral challenger and Progressive Movement councillor William Moreno claims Parody used dirty tactics in the 2011 mayoral race, ultimately won by former M-19 guerrilla Gustavo Petro.

According to prosecutors, Moreno will testify in court that Parody used various media outlets to make unfair allegations against lobbyists, ultimately discrediting his work on housing issues.

Parody was due to appear in court Wednesday morning at the Paloquemao court in downtown Bogota.
