Colombia’s most important anti-mafia prosecutor fled the country shortly after reports indicated she was on the hit list of a prominent drug lord.
According to several media sources, prosecutor Ana Margarita Duran left the country on Wednesday after the arrest of two presumed contract killers.
The two suspects allegedly work for “El Diablo,” who according to newspaper El Espectador took over neo-paramilitary organization ERPAC after the killing of the drug trafficking organization’s leader “Cuchillo.”
Duran left the country in an airplane belonging to the U.S. DEA, which in January had warned about a plan to murder the official. According to reports regarding that warning, the murder was plotted by the drug trafficking organization of “El Loco Barrera,” who is alleged to work together with ERPAC.
