Medellin beats Nacional in city derby

Independiente Medellin earned their first Copa Postobon victory of the year, beating arch rivals Atletico Nacional 1-2 in Sunday’s league action.

The defending champions had a perfect start at Atanasio Girardot stadium as Anselmo De Almeida scored the opening goal in the second minute, but Ezequiel Maggiolo levelled for Nacional in the 29th.

DIM had the final say however as Cesar Valoyes netted the winning goal at 70 minutes.

Both sides had a player sent off in the first half. Medellin’s Edgar Pardo was red-carded in the 26th minute and Andres Mosquera of Nacional followed twelve minutes later.

Deportes Tolima secured their second win in row, beating Deportes Quindio 0-3 in Armenia. Rodrigo Marangoni broke the deadlock after 65 minutes, Christian Marrugu doubled the lead in the 73rd and Efrain Viafara added a third goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Real Cartagena are the only other team with six points from two games following a 0-2 win at Boyaca Chico. Luis Iriarte (10th) and Milton Rodriguez (64th) delivered the goals. Diego Chica and Pedro Pino of Chico were sent off in the final phase of the match.

Junior of Barranquilla received La Equidad of Bogota and won 2-0 thanks to two goals from Martin Arzuaga, who first scored in the 61st minute and doubled the advantage from the penalty spot with five minutes to go. La Equidad had Edwin Rivas sent off in the 56th minute.

After their goalless draw at Medellin a week ago, Santa Fe beat America de Cali 2-0 at their own Campin stadium in Bogota. Argentinian Omar Perez put his side in the lead from the penalty spot in the 64th minute, and Ricardo Villarraga found the target for his team’s second goal in the 90th.

Newly promoted Cortulua earned their first point of the season, holding vice-champions Atletico Huila to a 1-1 draw in Neiva. Pablo Jaramillo gave Cortulua the lead in the 47th minute but Huila’s Gonzalo Martinez limited the damage with a converted penalty at ten minutes from the end. John Jairo Montaño of Cortulua was dismissed in the 56th minute.

Liga Postobon action kicked off on Friday as Once Caldas beat Envigado 3-1 in Manizales. Diego Arias, Dany Santoya and Fernando Uribe scored for the hosts, Neider Morantes did so for the away team.

Deportivo Pereira travelled to face Cucuta Deportivo on Saturday and left the border town with a 0-2 victory in the bag. Daniel Neculman scored the opener at 34 minutes and Wilson Mena added a second near the full time whistle.

Deportivo Cali were much too strong for Millonarios, beating the Bogota outfit 4-1 at Pascual Guerrero stadium. Millonarios did take the lead through Yovanny Arrechea in the fourth minute but Cali soon turned things around with goals from Diego Alvarez and Michael Ortega. Wilmer Parra added another two goals in the second half.
