Atletico Huila won their third consecutive match in the Copa Mustang II
on Saturday and remain in first position of the Colombian league.
The team from Armenia needed 22 minutes to score the opener against Santa Fe, with Hernan Cordoba hitting the net. The same player also doubled the lead in minute 57.
Santa Fe got one back from a free kick in the 68th minute but it wasn’t enough for the Bogota outfit to avoid defeat.
In Saturday’s other game, Deportivo Cali earned their first win of the season against Pereira. Dubier Riascos scored the first goal after just eight minutes and Sergio Herrera made it 2-0 in minute 16.
The hosts went down a man when Luis Chara received a red card in the 35th minute and conceded a goal from Mario Gimenez in the 64th, but then held on to their lead to earn the points they craved.
On Friday, defending champions Once Caldas only managed a goalless draw with America de Cali.
With Sunday’s action still ahead, it is already certain that Huila remain in first place as no other team can reach nine points this weekend.
