Copa Mustang II Preview: Week 7

The Colombian Copa Mustang II championship has begun to take shape with
Atletico Huila comfortably on top while America de Cali struggle near
the bottom. The action continues this weekend as Huila defend their
lead against second-placed Medellin.

The first match of the round takes place a day earlier however as Santa Fe and La Equidad meet for a Bogota derby on Saturday. La Equidad have won the last three league meetings against Santa Fe but did lose 1-3 in a Copa Colombia clash last month. Santa Fe have been doing well in recent games and will look to continue their good form at El Campin and are favored by bookmakers to do so.

Defending champions Once Caldas host Millonarios later on Saturday. Caldas haven’t been performing as well as expected while Millonarios should be happy with their season start. The last two meetings between these clubs ended undecided, but Millonarios beat Caldas in Manizales last year.

Another entertaining clash is the coastal derby between Real Cartagena and Atletico Junior, a match that could really go either way.

Atletico Nacional host Cucuta Deportivo on Sunday, with Cucuta looking to beat Nacional for the first time since 2007. Of the last four encounters, Nacional won two and the other two ended in draws. Cucuta need the win most, being placed 15th at the moment.

The top clash of the week is without a doubt the match between Huila and Medellin. Huila haven’t lost a single match this season and even in case of defeat, they would still remain in first place. Medellin did lose twice but won the four remaining games to occupy second place. If Huila wins this game, the gap will grow considerably. If DIM win however, the deficit would be just one point.

In other action on Sunday, Boyaca Chico host America de Cali, Deportivo Cali receive Deportes Quindio, Deportes Tolima visit Deportivo Pasto and Envigado face Deportivo Pereira.
