Colombian Navy reports death of 2 ELN members

The Colombian Navy reported the death of two militants belonging to the guerrilla group the ELN after a two-hour clash Wednesday in the western department of Choco.

Authorities confiscated arms, ammunition and communication equipment during the operation in the Pizarro muncipality, located along the Pacific Coast, where the group is said to have drug trafficking operations.

The two alleged guerrillas were known as alias “Esteban,” third-in-command of the group’s “Resistencia Cimmaron” Front and alias “Horacio,” a squadron leader.

According to the official press release, the Pacific Naval Force “will continue to develop offensive operations to dismantle the structures of armed groups acting outside the law, maintain security and order along the Colombian Pacific coast, while inviting the community to provide information on actions of terrorist groups.”
