28 alleged ‘Los Urabeños’ members arrested

Authorities have captured 28 alleged members of the neo-paramilitary criminal gang “Los Urabeños” in the Magdalena Medio area of central Colombia, reported W Radio Tuesday.

Alias “Julio”, the supposed head of the Puerto Berrio, Antioquia department division of the organization and alias “Arboleda”, a henchman who allegedly covered the whole Magdalena Medio area, were two of the most significant arrests.

Alias “La Secretaria”, who according to the authorities managed the finances of the criminal group, was also arrested in the joint operation between the Prosecutor General and the police.

Magdalena Medio is a valley area along the Magdalena River that stretches between the Antioquia, Bolivar, Boyaca, Cesar and Santander departments.

The arrest comes just one day after police reported the capture of 15 suspected Los Urabeños members near Medellin.
