Officials on Tuesday alerted citizens of forest fire risks across multiple municipalities in Colombia’s northwest Antioquia department.
The director of DAPARD, Cesar Augusto Hernandez Correa, told Caracol Radio that the objective is for the authorities and the community to adopt specific precautions regarding the high threat of forest fires.
He called on municipal councils to inform the citizens in the affected areas about a high threat of fire that can result from campfires, cigarettes, arson or natural causes.
A forest fire in the Bello municipality, located just north of Antioquia’s capital, Medellin, is currently being evaluated by the agency.
