Vicente Fernandez announces farewell tour (again)

Legendary Mexican rancheras singer Vicente Fernandez announced the Colombian dates for his final tour before retiring from the stage.

The so-called “Son of the People” will play shows in several locations throughout Colombia including the county’s three largest cities– Bogota, Medellin, and Cali. He will also play in noticeably smaller towns like Armenia, Tunja, and Yopal, given his strong rural following.

As the most popular contemporary ranchera musician, Fernandez has recorded over 70 albums, sold over 50 million records and participated in over 30 films. Although less known to English-speaking audiences, the singer, actor and producers has filled venues for nearly 35 years. His repertoire is comprised mainly of pure ranchera songs– traditional Mexican music dating back to the country’s revolution in the early 20th century.

Fernandez will also perform twice in Colombia’s capital —the first concert is set for August 19 in Bogota’s Simon Bolivar Park and the second will take place Thursday September 20 in Jaime Duque Park.

He is scheduled to play in Medellin June 29 at the Livestock Show beginning at 8PM. Ticket prices range from $26 for general standing admission to $2855 for premier table service.
