Venezuela arrests top ELN commander

Venezuela has arrested and deported one of the top commanders of guerrilla group ELN, Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos confirmed Saturday.

“Caliche,” a member of the guerrilla group’s central command, was arrested Friday in the Venezuelan border state of Zulia.

The rebel commander is alleged to lead the group’s December 6 Front and wanted by Colombian authorities for homicide, terrorism and rebellion.

Following his arrest, the rebel leader was flown to Bogota where he will be charged and jailed.
