Vargas Lleras launches 2010 Presidency campaign

Presidential Candidate German Vargas
Lleras officially launched his
election campaign Thursday. He told a Bogota rally of more than 2
thousand that he is ready to take over the reigns from Colombian
President Alvaro Uribe.

“When Alvaro Uribe walks out the big door of La Casa de Nariño we can assuredly tell him: Yes there is someone to take your place, President, yes tehre is someone!,” Vargas
Lleras proclaimed to the crowd.

Uribe’s supporters have expressed concern that Colombia’s Democratic Security depends on his re-election.

Uribe has said previously that he would be prepared step down if the coalition were able to unitedly present a worthy successor who is able to continue with his Democratic Security policy.

Vargas
Lleras affirmed that he supported Uribe’s Democratic Security policy and recognized that under Uribe the government had achieved some praiseworthy goals.

The ex Senator and leader of the Cambio Radical party also leveled some criticism at Uribe in the areas of social and agricultural policy and for the ‘false positive’ cases.

He declared himself a follower of assassinated Presidential candidate, Luis Carlos Galan and a rabid supporter of Uribe. He also said that Colombia still has a lot to work on.

Vargas
Lleras announced his intention to run for Presidency on Tuesday, via a video on his website.
