U.S. wants to extradite retired navy officer

The U.S requested the extradition of a retired Colombian navy captain for alleged involvement in drug trafficking.

Willians Fernando ‘Will’ Alvarado Saavedra, now retired, was a naval commander on San Andres island. He is accused of at least three drug trafficking charges.

The order for his arrest came a few hours after Admiral Gabriel Arango Bacci faced the Supreme Court on charges of drug trafficking.

According to U.S. investigators there is evidence that ‘Will’ was part of a drug trafficking ring operating off the north coast of Colombia, El Tiempo reported.

Invstigators believe ‘Will’ collaborated with Colombians Ulis Ernesto Howard and Edwar Cortes Romero and American Louis Pargiolas to move drugs from Colombia into international waters and on to the U.S.

The ring is believed to have had contacts in Bogota and San Andres, according to El Tiempo.

The three Colombians and the American have been summoned to appear before the District Court in Florida.
